Core, Intermediate and Advanced Psychodrama Training Brisbane 2024

Who   Through the year-long Program, we form a cohort enabling deep work to be undertaken.  This group method develops us as human beings in the helping professions where we are working as psychotherapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, General Practitioners, counsellors, educators, teachers, School Principals, trainers, pastoral care workers, community developers, leadership coaches, supervisors, organisational and human resource developers.  People who are entering these arenas of work will also benefit.

Ideally, those entering training have a workplace where they can immediately use the psychodrama methodology as it is learnt. We require that professional supervision in applying this method is scheduled to develop capability and to ensure ethical practice as trainees. This training is designed as post graduate training.

Training is not for the faint hearted.  Display of oneself, doing the work to stay in reciprocal relationship with one another including walking in each other’s shoes is required, as is committing to all elements of the year-long training program.

Why   The purpose of this training is to develop trainees as human beings who can apply this methodology in their work and other life contexts.   The standards are set by the AANZPA Board of Examiners and are published in the Psychodrama Standards and Training Manual to be found on the AANZPA website.  This year, 2024, the curriculum emphasises the role development anticipated at different stages of development.  This relational methodology, that is heuristic and wisdom-based, focusses on:

(i) creating and maintaining cooperative and interactive relationships, viz. reciprocal relationships with fellow trainees that flow onto relationships with clients and colleagues,

(ii) becoming purposeful and developing adequacy in our responses in an ever-widening set of circumstances and contexts, and

(iii) broadening and refining our ways of thinking, feeling and behaving in service of healing and helping others’ well-being and progression in their lives and work.

What   In 2024, there will be emphasis on trainees developing as:

(i) group workers, sociometrists, psychodramatists, role trainers and sociodramatists,

(ii) as clinicians, writing a professional paper on a client’s functioning over time and measuring the client’s progress applying psychodramatic analysis and methodology,

(iii) developing trainee’s psychodrama identity through expanding as an effective group member, being a protagonist for the group and directing enactments.

The Program will involve oral reporting on sessions conducted, discussions, group supervision and writing papers required for certification that will support development in these areas.  The particulars of the curriculum will be developed anticipating the requirements of those enrolled in the training program, attending to what emerges moment by moment during training, and covering the training required for certification set out in the AANZPA Standards and Training Manual.

At a minimum, it takes four years to qualify.  Many trainees take ten years or so to integrate this methodology in their work and in their professional identity.  Other trainees include the psychodrama methodology into their work with supervision and do not seek full membership of this profession.

Where and when   You will see from the dates set out below that the Program is comprised of weekend workshops, group supervision on Friday nights prior to the training and a five-day psychodrama and group work training program in October.  Attendance at other recommended events is optional and encouraged and does not require further fees.  See details below.
